National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Preventive Medicine

The Experimental Teaching Center of Preventive Medicine was established in September, 1998 and was awarded the title of Provincial Teaching Experimental Center in Jiangsu Universities in January, 2000. In August, 2005, it was awarded the Jiangsu provincial construction project of Experimental Teaching Demonstration center of Basic Courses in Colleges and universities, and passed the acceptance in December, 2007. In 2009, the center was selected as a national experimental teaching demonstration center.

The first-class discipline of Public Health and Preventive Medicine of the center ranked in the national “A+”level in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of education. Preventive Medicine passed the acceptance of the first phase of Jiangsu brand specialty construction project with the Excellent level, and became a national first-class undergraduate specialty construction point. Innovation and Practice of the Trinity talent training mode of public health and preventive medicine won the second prize of National Teaching Achievement Award, Reconstructing 5C practical innovation ability system and Cultivating compound public health talents won the second prize of Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, Integration and Communication, Collaborative Innovation, the Construction and Practice of compound public health personnel training model won the special prize of Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Achievement Award.

Currently, the center has 167 faculty and staff members, including 38 professors, 58 associate professors. Among the teaching staff, there are academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, experts with special government subsidies of the State Council, leading scientific and technological innovation talents of the national Ten Thousand Talents Plan, national teaching masters, distinguished Yangtze River Scholar professors, young and middle-aged leading scientific and technological innovation talents of the Ministry of Science and Technology, New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education, national advanced workers, recipients of National Outstanding Youth Scientific Fund, chief scientists of 863 program, chief scientists of 973 program, recipients of key programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, candidates for national major talent projects, candidates for national major youth projects, national excellent doctoral thesis instructors, etc.

The national planned teaching textbooks edited by the center include Comprehensive experiment of preventive medicine (2nd Edition), Hygienic Chemistry Experiment, Health Microbiology (digital textbook), Toxicology Foundation, Epidemiology, Epidemiology (Bilingual), Epidemiology (English Version), as well as provincial key textbooks including Instrumental Analysis, Medical Statistics, Public Health PBL Practice, Data management and Analysis of Medical Research, and Public Health Practice Skills. These textbooks have been promoted and used by hundreds of medical colleges and universities.

The center has established a national excellent resource-sharing course  Hygiene Toxicology, a national top-notch online course Epidemiology, a national top-notch virtual simulation experiment course Public Health Emergency Disposal of  Chemical Plant Deflagration, a national quality video open course Reproductive Health, and Jiangsu provincial quality courses including Occupational Health and Occupational Medicine, Epidemiology, Health Statistics, Jiangsu provincial excellent online open courses including Epidemiology(English Version) and Medical Statistics provide free services for universities at home and abroad, achieving in-depth sharing of resources.

The existing teaching laboratory covers an area of 1910 m2, the scientific research laboratory covers an area of 2865 m2, and 1845 instruments and equipment. 429 experimental projects were set up for undergraduate and graduate students in Nanjing Medical University, and diversified and open management was implemented. The center has become a diversified and open experimental teaching demonstration center with advanced educational concepts, perfect experimental facilities, sophisticated experimental equipment, scientific teaching system, systematic experimental textbooks, reasonable personnel structure, top-notch management and distinctive features.
